Manish J. Tipu is an Indian Music Composer ,Singer ,Multi-Instrumentalist and VO artist based in Mumbai who works for Films ,Television and Advertising Industry.
Early Life
Born in Patna (Bihar), India, Manish J. Tipu started learning music at the age of 3. He went to prestigious St. Michael’s High School (Patna) .A child prodigy, he learnt Tabla from different gurus of Benaras Gharana and performed in concerts all around. By the age of 11, he graduated in Indian Classical Instrumental –Tabla, from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad in 1990.
After his schooling he went to New Delhi for higher studies where Late Mr. Habib Tanveer (eminent theatre director) reignited his love for Indian folk music under his tutelage when he sang and played the lead in one of his plays “Thalha Ram” in Delhi University.
Career
Films
Manish’s great passion for music led him to Mumbai in 2003 to be associated with leading music director Pritam on ‘Gangster’ (Vishesh Films) and ‘Dhoom’ (Yashraj Films). He started his independent journey as a composer and singer in late 2004 for Ad jingles, Background score for Television, shorts and documentaries. His first film, “Phas Gaye Re Obama” went on to be a raving hit in 2010.
His other films like “Antardwand” won the National Award for best film on Social Issues and “Hansa” won the Audience Choice Award and FIPRESCI International Critics Award at Osian Cinefan Film Festival 2012.
The social satire, “Saare Jahan Se Mehenga” and love story “Jo Dooba So Paar” are also musically penned by him.
International Films
“Qissa” (2013), a film directed by Anup Singh starring Irrfan Khan and Tisca Chopra for which he composed riveting songs was internationally acclaimed with huge honours like Winner of NETPAC Award at Toronto International Film Festival 2013 and Winner of Dioraphte Award at the 43rd International Film Festival, Rotterdam among many other accolades came as his first international independent project which received impeccable reviews and multiple awards in festivals all around the world.
Singer
Apart from scoring music in various films, Manish has also lent his uniquely evocative voice for various mainstream hits like ‘Galla Goodiyan’ (Dil Dhadakne Do), ‘Bhoos’ (Gangs of Wasseypur) , ‘Control’(Chhichhore) and for films like ‘Jagga Jasoos’, ‘Trishna’, ‘O Teri’, ‘Sonali Cable’, ‘Badmashiyan’etc.
Madhya Pradesh Tourism Ad for which he sang won Cannes Silver Lion Award for best original music 2018.
Television
Manish also sang the title tracks for television shows like ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Season 6’ and ‘Bigg Boss Season 6’. He did the Background Score of ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’ FEAR FACTOR (Season 5,6 & 7) for Colors channel and ‘Mega Structure’ (The Rising Sun) for National Geographic Channel. He has also given the background score of the TV fiction- ‘Kya Kasoor Hai Amla Ka’ for Star TV in 2017.
Band
Manish J. Tipu is also the founder, lead singer and multi-instrumentalist of the bands NeoGharana and JFK (Just Folk Kit). Amalgamating music from myriad cultures and ethnicities from India and World , NeoGharana merges music which is deep rooted in Indian influence but yet is embodied in a contemporary and global texture. This unique fusion touches the human core and brings out unity across boundaries.
